Tango Point in General Santos City - Philippines

Just like the popular ballroom dance Tango, this is one dive spot that will engage divers in a whirlwind dance with lashing waves and murky waters. The Tango Point is one of the famous dive spots along Sarangani Bay. It is located at the eastern portion, where the weather is said to be kind of erratic. To get to Tango Point, divers usually just take a fisherman's boat from any point of Sarangani Bay. This is by far the only convenient form of transportation in the area. Aside from being convenient, it would be thrilling, too, to know that one could just hop on a boat along Sarangani Bay to get to all the other dive points. Meanwhile, to get to Sarangani Bay from the General Santos City proper, all one has to do is to get a habal habal, tricycle or jeepney ride.

Once one gets to dive at Tango Point, one will get exhilarated with the view, all the wonders of corals and exotic marine life at a stretch of 17 miles. Among the kinds of marine life that one will be able to find at Tango Point include the wrasse, snappers, and sweet lips. There are also soft corals and hard corals, which are right now on the process of recovery from the destruction brought about by dynamite fishing in the past. Also, as is else where in the waters of General Santos City, expect to see some of its well famed tuna at Tango Point.

Due to the strong waves that can hit the waters of Tango Point occasionally, it is advisable that beginners stay away from it and let those who are more experienced in diving venture in this dive spot. Apart from the strong waves, the visibility can be poor at many times during the day.

One sad thing about Tango Point, aside from the fact that its corals have been victims of illegal fishing in the past, is the fact that pollution has also taken its toll on it. Tango Point is actually among the four dive spots in Mindanao, the others being the Kapatan Reef, the Lago Creek, and the Kabug Marine Reserve, that incurred growths of the deadly black algae which grows in aqua culture grime and industrial pollutants. This caused many of the primary species of corals as well as fishes in the area to be wiped out from Tango Point. Although there have been new species growing now in the area, this still serves as a call to us people to be careful of our wastes because these can adversely affect all the remaining blessings of nature.
