Sulifman Diving Site in General Santos City - Philippines
The Sulifman Diving Site is also known as Veterans Beach, but to many tourists as well as to locals, it is better known as the Sulifman Diving Site. The Sulifman Diving Site is situated at the very end of the Tampuan Wall or the Tinoto Wall Complex, otherwise known as The Wall. Going there takes only about 30 to 50 minutes from the General Santos City proper. But if the tourist goes here via the USAID road, then travel time takes, at most, just 45 minutes. Then, once he gets into the Tinoto Village proper, it would just be 25 meters going to The Wall itself. The Wall, in itself, is already one popular dive spot, and the Sulifman Diving Site is one of its points. Just cruise through the entire stretch of The Wall; at the end will be the Sulifman Diving Site.
Once the tourist gets into the Sulifman Diving Site, one thing he might notice first thing is the odd way at which the sea bed slopes downward as he gets farther off into the water. But right when he thinks he has already gotten to a distance where it should already be the water's deepest point, he will notice that, well, it is not really that deep. Diving into the Sulifman Diving Site, one will witness a part of the famed Coral Gardens of General Santos City, where one will see, of course, tuna, as well as a large number of aquarium fishes, shoaling fish, and even hammerhead sharks. One will also witness here some interesting sea bed formations that form a sort of series of pinnacles. There is even a portion of the Coral Gardens showing some damage due to illegal dynamite fishing in the past, which the authorities are still trying to abate. Even the entry point of the Sulifman Diving Site is interesting, what with the rough kind of stairway leading to it, which number to about 20 steps.
When it comes to level of difficulty, the Sulifman Diving Site is a no brainer - everybody is welcome here, amateurs and professionals alike, because the waves are generally friendly. Tourism officials in the area guarantee that the site normally does not have any strong current. However, the problem is with the visibility of the water, which can get a little murky at times.
When it comes to costs, one consideration will be the accommodation, but many tourists attest that the Sulifman Diving Site has affordable accommodations to avail of. Most accommodations here, which come in the form of cottages rentable by day, are available for only around 150 pesos each.
