Petron Pier in General Santos City - Philippines

The Petron Pier is one of the newest dive sites in the country. According to local tourism officials, it has been around for only about two years. Petron Pier is situated in the town of Tambler in General Santos City. Getting to Petron Pier is as simple as riding a "habal habal" or a public utility motorcycle, or even a tricycle, to Tambler from the City proper. Or, the tourist could take a jeepney with a sign board that says "Tambler" on it. The distance is just about 15 kilometers from the City proper. Petron Pier is particularly situated along the Sarangani Bay, which is, in itself, already a very popular tourist beach spot.

Once the tourist diver gets into Petron Pier, the first thing he will most probably notice is the very peaceful atmosphere in the place. This is perhaps the reason why a place that is known as a pier, which is supposed to be a very busy place, has been promoted to be one of the prime tourist spots in the city. Another interesting thing about Petron Pier is how its foundations stand on the sea bed. Because of this, all the stationary sea creatures, such as the corals, grow on these foundations in a vertical fashion. Aside from corals, one would also be interested to find out that the waters surrounding Petron Pier is also rich in the world famous tuna of General Santos City, as well as aquarium fish species like trumpet fish, lion fish, sea horses, and scorpion fish. Also expect lots of shrimp and octopus teeming in hordes in the waters of Petron Pier.

All divers, regardless of experience, are very much welcome at Petron Pier. However, those who are looking for adventure may not be that fond of the waters of Petron Pier, because the waves are quite calm in here. But the first timers would certainly be thrilled, because scouring through the underwater world of Petron Pier would not be that much of a challenge to them. In the meantime, experienced divers or not, everybody would surely have a grand time what with all the eye treats the Petron Pier has to offer.

Prices at Petron Pier are sure to reach their steepest when peak season begins, which is during the summer, Christmas, and semestral break months. If the tourist would wish for less crowd and expenses, he could opt to travel at Petron Pier during the off peak months.
