People and Population in General Santos City - Philippines

General Santos Citys People and Population contribute largely to the citys economy and workforce, whereby most of the people who were born and raised here opted to stay put and make a living from the fishing industry, among other fields.

Back in 2000, the citys People and Population were calculated at 411, 822 persons and this number reached a significant high by the time statistics were taken in 2007.

2007 Population

As of August 2007, the citys People and Population data showed an increase of 117, 720 persons, jumping to 529, 542 persons from 2000s last population count. Percentage of population growth was pegged at an average of 3.53% for the periods covering the years 2000 up to 2007.

Out of all the local communities belonging to the city, Calumpang registered the most number of people, with 67, 832 persons or 12.8% of the citys total population/

Out of these numbers, there were more men than women at 50.5% for men and 49.5% for women. Median age is 21 years old, a year older than 2000s median age of 20 years old.

34.9% were persons under 15 years of age; where children 5 years and below took up most of the percentage, at 12.4%. While 11.8% were between the ages of 15 and 19.

An important note here for the citys People and Population is that 58.1% of the total population was of the voting age, from 18 years old and above.

People

General Santos Citys People and Population are called Generals. The Generals are known for their fun-loving nature, as is evident in the numerous festivities celebrated each year and where everyone participates in.

They are also very warm and friendly towards tourists exploring their city, always ready to extend a helping hand and oftentimes going out of their way to help someone in need of assistance.

The Generals are also known for being neighborly. It is common to see neighbors walking up to each others houses to offer food and often to chat-up the neighbors on free afternoons.

A large influence on the People and Population of General Santos City is religion. Most of the people here are practicing Roman Catholics, while a good number are also Protestants and Muslims.
