Malapatan Offshore Pinnacle in General Santos City - Philippines
The Malapatan Offshore Pinnacle is one of the more interesting dive spots in General Santos City. It is specifically situated at the eastern portion of the Sarangani Bay, which, in itself, is also one popular diving site in the world renowned Tuna Capital. To go to the Malapatan Offshore Pinnacle, one has to go on board a fisherman's boat from any point of the Sarangani Bay. This is by far the only direct form of transportation going to the Malapatan Offshore Pinnacle. Meanwhile, to go to the Sarangani Bay from the General Santos City proper, one can opt to ride on a habal habal, tricycle, or a jeepney going to the town of Tambler. This is where the Sarangani Bay is specifically located.
Once the tourist diver gets into the Malapatan Offshore Pinnacle, the first thing he will most probably notice is the landmark by which it is named, which is a pinnacle formation. This pinnacle is situated about 500 meters from the beach. What he sees on the beach is just five meters of the pinnacle formation, which is visible only during the low tide. Another thing he will most probably notice and enjoy is the many turtles in the area. The Malapatan Offshore Pinnacle is just one among the few diving sites in General Santos City that offer a healthy living habitat for turtles. Apart from all these, one will also be interested to witness the many fishing nets surrounding the area. This is actually a kind of habitation system employed by the locals there so that the coral reefs in the area will be protected. And, since the coral reefs are under this kind of protection, the waters of the Malapatan Offshore Pinnacle also offer lots of sightings of marine creatures, this including the world famous tuna of General Santos City.
Since the Malapatan Offshore Pinnacle is situated at the eastern side of the Sarangani Bay, tourist divers may expect situations here to get a bit rough because the eastern portion is almost always struck with gloomy weather conditions. Thus said, divers must have some degree of experience in diving for them to survive the rough waves and the poor visibility that the gloomy weather occasionally brings about in the Malapatan Offshore Pinnacle.
As per costs, the diver tourist should expect these to go down during off peak season, which are the months other than the summer season, Christmas, and semestral vacation months. If the tourist diver would wish to encounter less traffic in the Malapatan Offshore Pinnacle, then it is also advisable that he go here during these off peak months.
