Golden State College in General Santos City - Philippines

Situated along P. Acharon Boulevard, General Santos City, Golden State College was set up in order to respond to the demand for growth in technical skills.

History

When Golden State Institute opened its doors to the community, it only had 7 administrative officials, 29 instructors, and 160 students. After five years of operation, the number of administrators and instructors increased to 48 all aimed towards meeting the demands of the growing population of students.

In 1997, Golden State Institute was located on a two-storey building serving as venue for academic training as well as practicum and classroom instructions. It began with only 7 vocational and 5 non-formal courses.

As the demand for technical expertise abroad increased, the school sought to upgrade and bolster its training program proficiency in order to produce productive, efficient, and professional graduates. This became the cornerstone of Golden States philosophy as it envisioned a society of fruitful and productive constituents within the framework of an economically progressive society.

Course Offerings

In 2001, Golden State Institute changed its name to Golden State College. It sought the approval of the Commission of Higher Education to offer degree programs. The school offers technological courses, such as Electronics, Automotive, Electrical Technology, and Architectural Drafting, as well as 2-year professional courses like Office Management, Nursing and Pharmacy Aide, Computer Secretarial, Hotel & Restaurant Management, and Midwifery.

In 2006, it was granted a permit to offer four-year degree programs in Hotel & Restaurant Management, Tourism Management, and Business Administration. Likewise, the school offers a Masters Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management and Nursing in collaboration with the Philippine Womens University-Taft Avenue.

Other Info

In pursuit of continuous growth, Golden State inaugurated its new four-storey building last June 21, 2010 for its students for this school year. The new building houses air-conditioned classrooms, new HRM and BSIT laboratories. It also includes offices for the staff and administration and a bigger library.

The Registrars Office is now located at the ground floor of the new building near the Office of Coordinator for Local and Foreign Internship Program. The Guidance Office moved to the second floor. The school is now pushing for the construction of 14 additional classrooms at other parts of the new building.

With the efforts of Golden States CEO Dr. Warren Manilay and Finance Officer Mrs. Sarah Jane Manilay, the new building is part of the institutions desire to offer its services to students from General Santos to surrounding areas.

As the number of enrollees in the General Santos City campus of Golden State College, the administration decided to open its new branch located at Alunan Avenue in Koronadal City. It opened during the 2nd semester of 2009 and offered HRM and IT courses. This school year, it started offering BS courses.
